I spent almost the entire day outside clipping goat hooves, cleaning out our former buck's yard and pen and adding some more dirt to some of the low areas in the yard where my does currently reside. During heavy rains we have a couple areas that flood out there. And one thing is for sure about my Nubians: they hate water (other than for drinking). They will not step into a water puddle and will run for shelter as soon as it starts to sprinkle.
So I have a list of blog posts I want to do here, but I'm so exhausted from today I just don't have the energy to write much more tonight.
Tomorrow Dianne from Di-Rich Farms is making a visit to our little budding suburban goat ranch to give me some friendly advice and share her thoughts about my goats and the arrangement I have going on right now. I'm really looking forward to her visit. The more I can learn from an experienced Nubian owner/breeder the better.
I still haven't decided which of her does I'm going to bring home. Maybe after her visit tomorrow I'll have a better idea.
My boys and I have decided to shoot for the Arizona State Fair in 2015 for our first dairy goat show. If I can find something smaller before then I'll enter us. In the meantime I plan to attend the County Fair in the spring and just observe what goes down at a showing.
I'm really missing not having any milk! I can't wait till next year when I have enough milk to freeze some for off season use. I would love to use our Nubian milk in my cooking on Thursday. But it's not to be.
Well, my pillow calls. Here's some pictures I had my oldest son take of me with our does. I plan to start handling them by the collar this way daily so they won't be bothered by it at all.

This is Lil' Toad Ranch Daylight at 9 months of age- 50% Nubian from our purbred buck Hillbilly Acres Duke and our NOA doe Darla.

This is Lil' Toad Ranch Daisy 9 months of age, also from Duke and Darla.
This is Lil' Toad Ranch Darla, our NOA Nubian doe, the doe that taught me all I know thus far.
