Highlighting Darla

I can't believe we're over 2 weeks into 2015.

Darla has 20 days left till her due date. I'm hoping she doesn't deliver till the 7th since I work on the 6th.

I'm definitely looking forward to having our delicious Nubian milk again. Darla has been such a great milk producer for our family. I was thinking today about who may end up getting Darla for their family farm. Whoever it is will be getting a great milk source, not to mention a pretty cool Nubian dairy goat.

Darla has taught us everything we know about rasing and milking a dairy goat. To think when we first brought Darla home she was not very human friendly and had to be trained to the milkstand and to be milked. Between her novice and mine we were quite the pair. Lots of laughs, a few tears, and much practice later, Darla has become a positively elegant Nubian doe. She has that classy, feminine apeal of the breed and the pleasing personality one desires in a milking doe. She also kids easily and is a great mom to her kids! We will miss her and are very thankful for all she has taught us and all that creamy, delicious milk she provided us last year.

Darla has had her CDT booster and BoSE injections. Her feed rations have increased a bit to keep up with her growing in-utero kids. Now it's just a waiting game. We don't have the facilites to spend the night in birthing barns with our does, but we'll be checking on Darla frequently in the next few weeks to be sure we don't miss her delivery.
